    Default Post 'Alim Masteries

As-salamu 'Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

I was wondering what are the different masteries that an 'Alim can go thru after going completing the 'Alimiyyah course in various Dar-ul-Ulooms? I have been contemplating Iftaa', Hadith, Tibb, Tafsir, History, and Arabic Language. I am sure there are much more. And which places are the best to go and study these masteries?

    Jazakallahu Khayran,

    Hisham al-Hanafi

I don't know too much about the different fields, but there is this institute:

The messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "The servant speaks words, the consequences of which he does not realize, and for which he is sent down into the depths of the Fire further than the distance between the east and the west."

The 6 year graduate could continue his studies from the 'iftaa' course, then other specialized studies.

What are the other types of masteries available? I know of Iftaa', Hadith, Tibb, Tafsir, History, and Arabic Language. Are there more? Also, which Dar-ul-Ulooms will be best for either of these masteries?

    Assalaamu'alaikum,

Is there anyone with more information on this topic?

There are many specializations but the most sought after - therefore most well-funded by the madaris and properly taken care of in terms of academic standard - is the takhassus fil ifta. So the question in the minds of most students is, is it really worth doing something else?

A few madaris offer takhassus fil hadith programs which are very good and worth considering. There is also a takhassus in da'wah wa 'l-irshad that seems to be very interesting. Darul Uloom Karachi offers it. In it the focus is on comparative religion and training one to be well-versed in giving answers to common accusations against Islam.
