    Default Aqeedah questions

    Assalamu alaykum.
I have a few aqeedah questions that I would like answered, inshaAllah. I cannot ask anyone locally so I am hoping some brother on here is willing to do a good deed and help me out.

I live in a non islamic environment and am often plagued by waswas. The waswas is OK alhamdulillah I can bear it but sometimes I get a lot of waswas that I am not sure how to answer.
Any answers/advice would be greatly appreciated. May Allah reward you in Ramadan!

    1. Allah swt is the most patient-is it possible for a creation to be as patient as He or more patient than He? I believe the answer is no both times but there are muslims who say Allah can indeed do the impossible. Are both opinions correct then (can one islamically hold either opinion and that is OK?)

    Jazak Allah khair.

What your waswasa is creating is something called a faulty question or circular argument. It falls in the same category as asking, "Can God create a square circle?" or "Can God create a rock that even He cannot lift?" The premises of the question posed are themselves faulty and illogical and force redefinition of terms that are being taken for granted. We believe that Allah can do anything He wills or wishes. But Allah Himself has described to us what He can do and what He won't do. For example, is it possible for Allah to do dhulm (injustice)? No. Why? Because he has said that He is never unjust, that He is the most just, that injustice stems from creation itself. (e.g. Allah does not commit injustice but people are unjust towards themselves by sinning).

So, does it go contrary to the belief that Allah can do anything He wishes? Of course not, since Allah does not wish to be unjust nor does He wish to be impatient - thus He is neither unjust nor is he impatient. Also, we know from the Qur'an that the way of Allah is eternal and unchanging. Allah is, was, and will always be the most patient. To believe otherwise is to deny an attribute which is not an opinion that is permissible to hold.

But see, brother-that's the thing. There is the school of thought that Allah swt cannot do the impossible but He can do everything that is possible. That's why I am so confused about this-I hope that others will chime in (especially Malikis). I wonder if both are valid opinions (Allah can do the impossible & Allah can do everything possible).
Of course Allah is most patient-He has always been so without any beginning, and will always be so without any end. I wasn't arguing against this at all

What is this school of thought that says Allah cannot do the impossible? That is a clear contradiction of the Qur'an. Allah is not governed or restrained by logic (especially our faulty logic) so if He wishes to, He can do the impossible. For example, creating something from nothing itself is an impossibility but Allah can just say "kun" and it is.

It is not a matter of "can't do", but a matter of "won't do". And this thread should be moved to the In-depth Aqeedah section so more people can see it.
