Doubling of zakath

Was watching Islam channel last nite. Raising funds for Islamic relief.
They were saying that all donations will matched by the government.
is that permissable.? Especially the payment of zakat.

Being matched by the government is an incentive to give as much sadaqah as possible. So if you give $100, the government will give $100 from their side towards the poor and needy. The government's share is a hibah from their side. It will not double your sadaqah, but you will be an instrument in more sadaqah being given to the needy.

As for Zakat, you still have to calculate exactly what you have to give out. If you give extra then that will be sadaqah.
