Sidi Zaidf,
Are you sure about #1?
Sidi Zaidf,

I too was wondering the same. Moreover, the "kamaa" used by ibn al-humaam seems to be suggest tashbeeh. Would it be possible then to say that this "fa lam yubiHhu aHadun" is on account of when the qaSd of imitating is actually present vs. when it isn't? I would be most obliged if Mufti AbuHajira could delve a little into this particular point as well as the one made by br. godilali.

this confuses me, if this is the case then guys would shave & trim as they wish because men with beards are always made fun of in the west. it seems that ones image is more important in the sight of man rather than Allah. The meaning, in my opinion, is "as long as it does not exceed what is customary among [religious] people." 'Ata' [ibn Abi Rabah, Mufti of Mecca, d. 114/732), has said, "There is no harm in trimming a little from the length and sides of his beard, if it grows large and long, in order to avoid notoriety, or if one risks being made fun of" ('Umda al-qari sharh Sahih al-Bukhari. 20 vols. Cairo: Mustafa Babi al-Halabi, 1392/1972, 18.76)
Who said that sidi SASLAMS from Sunnipath? Sh. Faraz or Sh. Nuh or Sh. GF Haddad?
I've asked some people around.
Let's hope they update me on time. But others are free to research this issue if they can as well, insha'Allah (if there might be something I may have missed in being informed etc).
Wassalam.

no it was in the article posted by Sh Abu hajira
I wanted to ask (if anyone could help), why don't the students of Abu Hanifah, such as Muhammad, Abu Yusuf and Imam Lu'lu'i and the 5 or so textbooks of the Hanafi madhhab have a chapter on the beard?
The classical view of the Hanafi madhhab was that the beard itself is an obligation but they had been silent on the length? A brother was telling me that there is something in the dhahir ar-riwayah stating first-length, but that it started from your mouth (i.e. lower lip)? Allah knows best.
Perhaps the above is incorrect so if anyone could enlighten me it would be helpful.
Again, this is not to justify any 'side'.
With Allah alone is success,
Wassalam.
That is what it seems, I have asked my teacher in london on why some ulema keep short beards and he replied that some take opinions from the other madhaib, so they aren't really fully fledged hanafis in that regards... as I said they are more lenient when it comes to taking opinions from the other madhaaib.

I did find the following in kitab al-aathaar:
روى الإمام أبو يوسف في كتاب الآثار عن إبراهيم النخعي أنه قال لا بأس أن يأخذ الرجل من لحيته ما لم يتشبه بأهل الشرك

And Mullaa `Ali al-Qaari writes in his commentary on the musnad of Imam Abu Hanifah:
فالتقدير : لو أخذتم نواحي لحيته طولا وعرضا وتركتم قدر المستحب وهو مقدار القبضة

It seems as though the following scholars all stated that the qubDah is the masnoon length without stating anything about it being waajib: al-marghinani in al-hidaayah, al-zayla`i in tabyeen al-Haqaa'iq, al-`ayni in his famous commentary, ibn al-humaam in fatH al-qadeer as stated above already, ibn nujaym in al-baHr, al-shurunbulali in his haashiyah of al-durar wa al-ghurar, `ali al-qaari' in his sharh musnad abi haneefah as shown above already, al-HaSkafi in al-durr al-mukhtar, al-TaHTawi in his haashiyah of maraaqi al-falaaH, al-zabeedi in ithaaf, and also in al-fataawaa al-hindiyyah. I may be wrong, and I'm hoping someone can confirm, but it seems as though the fatwaa of the qubDah being "waajib" came much later amongst the Hanafis.
