I beg to differ. You'll be surprised how many Hanafi scholars today actually allow shaving, let alone trimming to less than a fist-full. It's not surprising at all, considering the fact that other actions and beliefs that have been legitimised today by scholars from all Madhabs under the slogan of respecting 'valid difference of opinion' today include calling upon Abdal Qadir Jilani, building structures on graves, and believing that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) possessed ilmul ghayb.

In fact, it would not be far-fetched to even aver that many of these rulings have now progressed in popularity amongst the scholars to become the 'majority ruling' today.

(Ikmalush Shiyam - commentary of the Hikam of Ibn Ata'illah al-Iskandari)

If Allah had not concealed my faults, and my true self was displayed, people would not even spit on me.

Question: Is the beard fardh in the Hanbali madhhab? What should it's length be?

    Answer: Bismillahi Al-Rahmani Al-Rahim

The obligation is not shaving it off. The sunnah is to just let it grow to its natural length. It is permissible to trim the beard, though it is better not to trim it to a length less than the width of your palm. Someone who habitually shaves their beard without having a legal excuse for doing so is considered morally corrupt, and it is invalid to pray the five daily prayers behind them.

Sh Musa turned Shafi'i it seems. Also, can you bring forward the references from the Hanbali school itself.

Ask Shaykh Musa Furber if you want the references.

You posted his fatwa trusting his scholarship, so you should know the references. If you can't bring any references his fatwa is not worth a penny and if you don't have any references from the original madhab, there is nothing wrong with confessing it.

I trust his scholarship enough like you trust your group's scholars and their scholarships. He is busy with helping the Ummah, so I do not see a need (for myself) to get ''references'' (and then perhaps refute him by bringing some other texts of the Hanaabilah and accusing him of being lax with the deen).

Sh. Musa Furber is accessible via Twitter and Facebook. Go get it for yourself if you need it.

    Ma' Salamh.
