Yet another Sunniforum thread on where is Allah ?

Do you think there is anything that happens that He cannot see?

Do you think there is anything that happens that He cannot hear?

Even Salafis like Bilal Philips accept that Allah is everywhere with his knowledge.

Explore what everywhere with your knowledge means, in your imagination.

    Furthermore...

Is Allah not in His own words nearer to you than your jugular vein?

Is it not the case that wherever you turn there is the face of Allah?

Some Sufis say Allah is everywhere but it is not a simple issue like you think.

Most traditional Muslims think that Allah is not limited to a place, that is not the same thing as being everywhere.

Words break down when we try to describe an unimaginable Creator.

Read Aqeedah Tahawiyyah a book written by a great Imam of the Salaf.

It should help you with your confusion and stop you falling into certain errors InshaAllah.

But what about that last Hadith that I posted? And nobody is disagreeing with allah knowledge being everywhere, that is agreed upon

    exactly

He is 'with you wherever you are' (57:4).

and to be everywhere with ones knowledge

is in one particular and very real sense to be everywhere

so there's not so much point in having this conversation yet again is there?

and no most traditional Muslims don't think He is everywhere in the way you think

    - they think that Allah transcends space and is unlimited by it (spatial directions are just one of His creations)

why not look up an old thread on here covering this issue?

“Muawiyyah bin al-Hakam related that he once had a young slave girl who tended his sheep, and upon finding that she had allowed some of them to be lost, he slapped her on the face. Immediately he realized that he had sinned, for the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) had forbidden striking any person or animal on the face. So he went to the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and asked whether he could free her as a means of atonement. The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told him to bring the girl. When she arrived, the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) asked her where Allah was, and she replied, ‘Above the heavens.’ Then he asked her who he was, and she replied, ‘You are the Messenger of Allah.’ He then turned to Muawiyyah (radi Allahu anhu) and told him, ‘Free her, for she is a believer.’” [Muslim]

From this it seems as if that is what the prophet agrees with?
Although this hadith is Sahih… This hadith cannot be used for Aqida, because this same situation has arrived to us with different wording in various hadith… Thus it is not 100% certain that the Prophet, sallahu alayhi wa salam, said those words….

Concerning this same situation it is reported that the Prophet asked,

    1) Where is Allah? (Sahih Muslim-)
    2) Who is your Lord and Who am I? (Sahih Hibban-Hasan)
    3) "Do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" and she said yes. He said, "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" (al-Musannaf-Sahih)

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani has said of the various versions of this hadith, "There is great contradiction in the wording" (Talkhis al-habir, 4 vols. in 2. Cairo: Maktaba al-Kulliyat al-Azhariyya, 1399/1979, 3.250)

What did the Prophet, sallahu alayhi wa salam, really ask??? If you don't know for certain, then how can you base your aqida on something that is not certain???

Muawiya ibn al-Hakam came to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and told him, "I am very newly from the Jahiliyya, and now Allah has brought Islam," and he proceeded to ask about various Jahiliyya practices, until at last he said that he had slapped his slave girl, and asked if he should free her, as was obligatory if she was a believer. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) requested that she be brought, and then asked her, "Where is Allah?" and she said, "In the sky (Fi al-sama)"; whereupon he asked her, "Who am I?" and she said, "You are the Messenger of Allah"; at which he said, Free her, "for she is a believer" (Sahih Muslim, 5 vols. Cairo 1376/1956. Reprint. Beirut: Dar al-Fikr, 1403/1983, 1.382: 538)

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) asked the slave girl, "'Who is your Lord?' and she said, 'Allah'; whereupon he asked her, 'Who am I?' and she said, 'You are the Messenger of Allah'; at which he said, 'Free her, for she is a believer'" (al-Ihsan fi taqrib Sahih Ibn Hibban, 18 vols. Beirut: Muassasa al-Risala, 1408/1988, 1.419: 189).

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said to her, "Do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" and she said yes. He said, "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" and she said yes. He said, "Do you believe in resurrection after death?" and she said yes. He said, "Free her" (al-Musannaf, 11 vols. Beirut: al-Majlis al-Ilmi, 1390/1970, 9.175: 16814).

    And Allah knows best....
