    Default Natural Beauty Care=Halal?

Asalam Alaikum brothers and sisters so after reading another thread in another forum about the uses of pig fats, hair, oils, etc in every day products in chemical (modified forms) I began thinking how could be possibly be clean if we still use pig fat in the form of gylcerine to wash, cleanse and moisturise our selves? I mean do we really want to be rubbing pig fat in our skin i.e face etc? The very thougth made me sick. So I decided and recommend that whether possible we should opt for natural beauty remedies, products and care or if we can, organic, vegan or vegatarian products. With the except if you need something to keep you healthy and alive say for example insulin or perhaps medications with geletine in them. So any way I thought perhaps we could share our health tips/secrets so we can all make steps to step away from pig products InShAllah.
    Some of my favorites are
    Almond oil
    Green tea
    Tea tree
    Citrus fruits
    Olive oil
    Cucumber
    Sugar
    Honey
    Levander
    Rose water
    Mint
    Salt
    Vinegar
    Water
    Coconut oil
    Aloe vera
    Senna
I shall list the uses in the next page or throught the thread. InShAllah.

Lavender oil can be used as an antiseptic (instead of an antibiotic), as well as a healing stimulant.

Calendula cream can be used to soften and fade scars.

As luck would have it, I just finished my favourite natural shampoo and was contemplating trying something else. Insha'Allah I'm going to have a go at the baking soda clean & apple cider vinegar rinse method to see how it goes. Not sure if I'll add anything extra for 'scent' and scalp therapy... tea tree oil?

I would love to know what method you used. Did you use a conditioner (commercial or coconut oil or olive oil...) afterwards?

Salams sis sorry long time replying been offline for a lil while. Anyhoo im currently trying different methods if hair washing, it seems to be going ok. I use baking soda and vinegar a couple of days ago it seems to help the greasiness. I rinsed it witn warm water and rose water yesterday. I did not wash it. Really it's just trying different things. The baking soda is a bit drying I found. However a little oil either almond, coconut or olive should apply from the mid lenght to the tips this should help I went and brought loads of stuff, herbal toothpaste, face wash and a couple of organic soaps. It was some of it was pricey but wonderful stuff. However it works out the same if you can replace some things like moisturiser, shampoo, lotions, eye cream. Some area's you'll save others you'll spend. The organic soaps are cheap as chips and I washed with the soaps today even in my hair. Hair looks good, feels soft. If you use soap for your hair lather it up in your hands and rub into your scalp. You'll need to rinse after thou. I rinsed with a jug of water containg rose water in it.That smells lovely and helps remove residue plus left my hair soft. I'll post my favorite tips I found. Some people even make there own shampoo's

Here's what I found from one site
It's vegan type site and this is her advice. This is what she says below. InShAllah it works for you.

What seemed to work best for me was to use a mix of all of these, depending on what I felt like making at the time!

    *
    Vinegar Rinse
A vinegar rinse is the simplest way to go. Mix 2-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into two cups of hot water.

Work this through your wet hair, massage in and then rinse out.

This works really well. The vinegar rinse doesn't strip any of the moisture from the hair, rather it is more of a mild conditioning treatment.

On the negative side if you are dealing with some hair detox and still have some greasiness, the vinegar rinse won't wash that out.

However, you could use this in conjunction with some of the other homemade shampoo recipes in place of conditioner.

    Baking Soda
A tablespoon of baking soda mixed with two cups of hot water makes a great homemade shampoo recipe for oily hair. This is great for when you are in the transition stage of becoming shampoo free as there is often quite a lot of build up.

This washes the build up out of your hair and gives a very squeaky clean feeling, similar to shampoo.

It's best to follow a baking soda wash with a vinegar rinse. The baking soda by itself is quite drying on the hair and the vinegar rinse helps to balance that out.

Once you're through the transition stages and don't have any oiliness to wash out, you may find this too drying.

    Fresh Lemons
I have used fresh lemons a good few times and found them very effective as a homemade hair shampoo.

Simply cut a lemon in half and squeeze the lemon halves directly onto your scalp and work the lemon through your hair well, and then rinse out thoroughly.

Again, this is best when you have some oiliness at the roots, and can be a little drying if you don't.

    Lemon and Cucumber Shampoothie

This is my husband Jaye's favorite shampoo. He also uses this as a shaving cream.

Blend one fresh peeled lemon with one peeled cucumber in the blender. Pour out into a jug and then mix into your hair, massaging well, rinse thoroughly.

This is GREAT! The cucumber acts as a conditioning agent, and the lemon as a cleansing agent, so the two together are like a two in one homemade hair shampoo!

If your hair is a little dry, use more cucumber. If it is a little oily, use more lemon. The two together equal magic!

The ONLY negative to this, is that it can be difficult to wash it out properly. The tiny flakes of lemon can get stuck in your hair and if your hair is dark, it might look a little like dandruff.

    Thanks sister.

These past 2 days, I've been experimenting with baking soda/water followed by the the vinegar/water rinse... I think the key is in continuing it for a while to let the ph balance of the scalp re-adjust. The only other thing I did was to use one final rinse with steeped black tea (whatever is left over in the pot) with rosemary (and a few drops of Clary sage oil) - do not wash/rinse after applying this, just leave it in (it will stain the towel so careful not to use a white towel if you try this).

Day 1 left my scalp itchy and my hair quite dry however, the volume was noticeably more (including a bit of frizz which I don't mind). I noticed a tiny bit of grime on the hair but this may be from the black tea leave-in stuff.

Day 2 rinsed hair with water (no baking soda) and then followed up with with vinegar water and then applied more black tea stuff. Scalp was a little less itchy, volume was still pretty good and the grime was gone (so, maybe not the tea stuff?).

I don't want to go on a shopping spree for stuff so I might just continue with the baking soda & vinegar. More is not necessarily better when it comes to the baking soda - I used more than a tablespoon and I think that was the cause of the itchy scalp (couldn't rinse it all out perhaps, day 2 rinse with water really helped).

My plan is to use the baking soda every 2nd or 3rd day for about 2 weeks and gradually decrease it to once every 5 days or so. I think the vinegar rinse should be good to use every other day.

Again, I think the key is to keep at it for a bit.
