Salams sister So far I only that baking soda a tad drying. It's high in alkaline and a high ph of 9 so Im not really keen on using it everyday. Im trying to replace everything that may contain glcerine {pig fat} from body wash to toothpaste ugh gross pig in toothpaste too. The only things I brought were toothpaste, face wash, soap and essential oils. O.0 any hoo. If your head is itchy that could be to much baking powder. It could take 2-4 weeks to adjust as the scalp produces more sebum when shampooing doh! Anyhoo if your roots are still greasy try a little bit of talc, rub a small amount in them and brush out. The vinegar helps balance out the ph balance so maybe equal amounts of baking soda and vinegar. Man we'll be a cake at this rate lol. Anyhoo Once we get past the greasy part it should be ok. I tried lemon, cuecumber and vingar type shampoothie that cleaned it but not as good as the baking soda. Did that for two days on day 3 I used the baking soda that helped alot. I think it's the product build up. The soap today did a nice job and smells nice ^.^ it was nice to lather up. Must admit although im not conditioning my hair is the smoothest it's been in a while. ^.^ I can get my fingers through it from the lengths to the ends. Despite baking a cake on my head, I must be doing something right ^.^

Cake one day, salad the next (I'll take that over meatloaf or some other meat dish in my hair any day!)

Going to try some tee tree oil in final rinse next time around. Also... might try an oatmeal paste once in a while (should be really soothing for the scalp, don't you think?).

Let's post here if we find anything on how our beloved Prophet and his blessed wives (ra) cared for their hair.

[edit: glycerin can be from vegetable oils too.]

    Wa'assalaam.

Salams yes that's true rather a salad and a cake then a meat loaf blah. Your right about gylcerin too, there are many companies that don't use meat gylcerine in their products I think garnia is one. Still Im opting for vegetarian friendly/organic if I can, less chemicals either way. Tea tree sounds good I brought some yesterday it's wonderful for beauty and home. I spray it around my home as an fabric freshners or on clothes etc. It can be irritating so just a little bit is needed. Anyhoo yes that a good Idea we should make a post of remedies/beauty secrets from the prothets wives pbut. It would be interesting. InshAllah.

sister, I couldn't do it... nope... I got to day 5, felt gross and went for my Nature's Gate shampoo. No more baking soda and vinegar for me (though I will continue to rinse with vinegar occasionally).

Let me know if you discover (I mean actually use and like) a home-made shampoo recipe and I'll give it a try in the future insha'Allah.

I think one should not use harsh chemicals or tons of time to get shiny, beautiful hair and smoother skin. These chemicals Just steal these gentle, back-to-basics moves to start looking your best. Wash your face with fresh water many times in a day.
