As-Salaam Alaykum,
On this forum I have read that many sunni's claim that the Shia version of Imam Mehdi is different then the Sunni version... I was wondering what is different between the two versions?
I am Shia and according to my understanding of Imam Mehdi;
1. He is in Occultation as of now.
2. His Job right now while in Occultation is to guide the people who are lost. To help those people who are deeply stuck in problems in their lives, to attend the Janaza of Pious Momins (Not every person is a pious Believer, a person who is truly sincere in their belief.), to help the scholars.
3. After he comes out of the Occultation by Allah's Command, he will set a system of Justice and Fight Oppression and Injustice. (That does not necessarily mean with the sword).
4. He will have vast amounts of Knowledge and will be able to split knowledge, scrutinize knowledge and then spread knowledge.
From Imam Ali (pbuhaf):
"He (Imam Mahdi - pbuhaf) will direct desires towards guidance while people will have turned guidance towards their desires, and he will turn their views to the Quran while the people will have turned the Quran to their views."
So what is different between the Sunni Version of Imam Mehdi?
P.S
We Believe he has been alive since 1400 years and has been in Occultation.
Many Sunni Scholars also belive he is alive and in Occultation:
1 - Mohammad Ibn Talha Al-Halabi Al-shafi’i in his book: Matalib Al-su’ul fee Manaqib Al-Alrasool. He says (P.88): “... the Mahdi the Hujja, the Muntathar (the awaited)... as for his birth, it was in Sare Man Ra’a (Samara City in Iraq)...”.
He also said: “The Mahdi is the son of Aba Mohammad Hasan Al-Askari, and his birth was in Samara...”
2 - Mohammad Bin Yousef Al-Konji Al-Shafi’i in his book: Al-Bayan fee Akhbar Sahib Al-Zaman. He says (P.336): “The Mahdi is the son of Hasan Al-Akkari, he is alive and present, remaining in a disappearance until now.”
3 - Mohammad Bin Ahmad Al-Maliki (aka Ibn Al-Sabbagh) in his book: Al-Fosool Al-Muhimma. He says (P.273, chapter 12): Abul Qasim Mohammad the Hujja, the son of the pure Hasan Al-Askari, was born in Samara in the middle of (month of) Sha’ban in the year 255 AH...”
4 - Sibt Ibn Al-Jowzy Al-Hanafi in his book: Tathkiratul Khawas. He says (P. 363): “... and his sons (i.e sons of Imam Hasan Al-Askari): Mohammad the Imam.” Then he said under another chapter about Imam Mahdi): “He is Mohammad the son of Hasan the son of Ali... and he is known as Abul Qasim, and he is the remaining Hujja, Sahib Al-Zaman, Al-Qa’im, and Al-Muntathar (the awaited)...”
5 - Ahmad bin Hajar in his book: Al-Sawa’iq Al-Mohriqa. After mentioning Imam Hasan Askari, he says (P. 127, Egypt Print 1308H): “And he had no children save his son: Abil Qasim Mohammad the Hujja, and his age at the death of his father was 5 years, Allah (swt) gave him wisdom...”
6 - Al-Shabraqi Al-Shafi’i in his book: Al-Ithaf be Hoob Al-Ashraf. He says (P.178): “The 11th of the Imams is Hasan the pure, nicknamed Al-Askari... and it is enough honour for him that the awaited Imam Mahdi is of his children...” Then he said: “Imam Mohammad the Hujja, the son of Imam Hasan the pure, was born in Samara, in the night of the middle of Sha’ban, year 255...”
7 - Abd Al-Wahhaab Al-Sha’rani in his book: Al-Yawaqeet wal Jawahir. He mentions the signs of Judgement Day, such as the arrival of the Mahdi. Then he says (P.145): “And he is (the Mahdi) of the sons of Imam Hasan Al-Askari, and his birth was at the night of the middle of Sha’ban in year 255, and remains until he gathers with Isa the son of Mary (pbuh)...”
8 - Abdullah ibn Mohammad Al-Mutairi Al-Shafi’i in his book: Al-Riyath al-Zaahirah. After mentioning the Imams, and Imam Hasan Askari, he says: “His son is the 12th Imam. His name is Mohammed the Qa’im Al-Mahdi...”
9 - Sirajul Deen Al-Rafi’i in his book: Sihah Al-Akhbar. He says: “As for Imam Hasan Al-Askari, he brought the man of the basement, the awaited Hujja, the Wali of Allah (swt) Imam Mahdi.”
10 - Behjat Afandi in his book: Kitab Al-Muhakamah. He said in mention of Imam Mahdi: “He was born on the 15th of Sha’ban year 255, and his mothers name is Narjis...”
11 - Al-Hafith Mohammad bin Mohammad Al-Hanafi Al-Naqshabandi in his book: Fasl Al-Khitaab. He said: “As for Abu Mohammad Hasan Al-Askari, his son is Mohammad (May Allah be pleased with them both), he is known by his close companions...” Then he mentioned his birth in mid Sha’ban year 255 with th description of Lady Hakimah the daughter of Imam Jawad.
IF THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE THEN WHY DO WE ARGUE WITH ONE ANOTHER ?? WE ARE ALL MUSLIMS BELIEVERS OF ALLAH, FOLLOWERS OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH).
