Default People renting basement have a dog & picture question

assalamualaikum brothers & sisters. People renting the basement have a dog and I know it is haram...I have told my parents to let them get a bird instead or something but they never listen to me in these religious issues.... I am really worried because, as you may know of this hadith:

Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle." Abu Huraira (in another narration) said from the Prophet, "unless it is used for guarding sheep or farms, or for hunting." Narrated Abu Hazim from Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "A dog for guarding cattle or for hunting."

I really don't know what to do because I have no power over this and I hope Allah extends His mercy upon me & doesn't reduce my deeds because of this, what do you all think I should do?

Also, my parents have many figurines & pictures in the house...I advised them to take them down because they are haram but they just get really angry with me...so I stopped asking them to, do you think the angels will not visit this house even though I did nothing wrong myself but it is my parents? I really wish I could break all these pictures they are just sickening...

& what about pictures in textbooks for school? I have textbooks with pictures in them only for studying purposes, should I mark out the animate pictures with a black marker as I come across reading them or something?

    Salam

as long don't leave those textbooks out and open, except for when you're reading them, or cover up the images on the cover etc.when you're not reading it, don't worry about it.

Obviously you cannot force your parents to comply the most you can do is suggest it. Of course when cannot begin to imagine the depths of Allah's mercy, one a beliver simply intends to do good they are rewarded, so don't become depressed over this issue.

This incident brings to mind an event that a local Imam quoted:

Once Ml. Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rah) saw a person with his trousers below his ankles and he told him to raise them up and avoid the sin associated with this act. The man said that he didn't care. When Ml. persisted and said "but its the sunnah you're leaving". the man responded "the hell with the sunnah".

i quote this incident to highlight that sometimes putting up images, or other sins are signs of a bigger problem, and trying to treat each individual symptom is not the best solution. rather you have to treat the whole condition.

Shaykh Hussain Abdul Sattar reccomends the following measures be taken when you are trying to correct and invidividual who is somewhat wayward in terms of the deen, first you must advise them gently as to the error of their way(s) if they persist then you neeed to change your approach and follow th efollowing four advices:

    1. make tremendous amount of dua for them. [this ensures that your serious and sincere in helping the individual.]

    2. don't be critical, basically after you advise them and they don't listen don't bring it up all the time and nag them. they heard the message already.

    4. show them love [search up the lecture changing people through love on this page http://www.sacredlearning.org/genera...yout=category]

    4. become as pious and righteous as you can possibly becaome and the ffects of the deen will start to show on you and they will naturally be inclined to follow your example. this is a tried and tested method.

I think you should listen to the lectures on this page as they would be beneficial for someone in your position (i.e. practicing youth in a somewhat non-practicing household) http://www.sacredlearning.org/genera...ayout=category.

with regards to the question as to whether or not the dog in the basement (which is probably separate form the rest of the house and the two are divided by a locked door) is a problem I think a scholar would be equipped to answer that.
