Why does your mother forbid you brother? Give us some background to the issue.

Thank you for the reply and well, my mother does not like Islam...she is against it and thinks that you only should go once a week to the masjid if at all, to be honest she really hates Islam in general I don't really know how else to explain it, even though she is muslim alhamdulilah, but we live in Canada and she is not devoted to Islam. I am kind to her for the sake of Allah and always obey her, I ask her kindly but she gets really mad even if you ask kindly and then spends 5 minutes putting me down. I remain silent because I can't disrespect my parents but I really wish I could disobey for the sake of Allah you know? I don't want to miss out on taraweeh

yes brother u can disobey ur mother in this regards as i have read in quran that obey ur parents but if they are wrong in islamic terms like forbidding u to pray then u need not to obey then but also never disrespect them even if they r kafir or non beliver

Thank you for the response brother, but I'm just wondering...attaraweeh is not mandatory but obeying your parents is mandatory in Islam, this is the thing I'm concerned about this is a very delicate issue because they are forbidding me from doing something that isn't mandatory. But I know alhamdulilah we can disobey when they forbid us to do mandatory things, but in this situation I'm not sure what to do, so I'm still not sure.... It's one of those really gray areas brother I mean...a scholar can probably justify it either way depending on your intention...I really don't know

It is better for you to obey your parents if they don't want you to pray taraweeh at the masjid (simply pray at home), but they cannot stop you from going to the masjid for fardh salah.
