I always thought charities just use a percentage of the gift aid money to fund themselves.
So if you donate to charity A £10, they get say £2.50 from UK government
    they spend £2.50 on admin.
they spend 'your' £10 on directly helping people.
and there you have a 100% donation policy.
I do not know if UWT go even beyond this, their profile on the charities commission website is certainly pretty amazing to look at.

All the charity's costs are covered by:

    - ‘Lillah’ donations specified for administration. The charity has a separate account for its administration fund to ensure the 100% donations policy is maintained.

    - Income generated from UWT clothing banks. There are over 100 clothing banks across the UK. Donated clothes are sold and the income is allocated to the administration account.

    - Profits received from the UWT Ummah shops and charity shops. Ummah shops sell brand new Islamic items and the charity shops sell new and nearly-new clothing items that have been donated to UWT clothing banks.

    - Tax reclaimed from the UK government’s Gift Aid scheme. This allows taxpayers to increase the value of their donation by 25%. This additional money is allocated to the charity’s administration fund.

That's not true as far as I know, and even by their own admission.

Do you have any official source stating otherwise?

Anyone else notice all the wastage of money that goes on in these charities? I get fully printed envelopes and brochures every year...all that money, paper, ink goes right into the bin.

Charities perform a function....but they should be temporary because for Muslims it is the khalifah who collects Zakat and re-distributes it to needy people...we should not make these charities into a substitute for the khalifah. The Khalifah would also stop riba and interest based banking, trade and finance so many of the problems of war and poverty caused by riba would diminish.

Muslim charities should be encouraged to stop wasting money or trying to guilt people into giving them money. People coming to my door almost everyday in ramadan for collections.

i understand what you mean, i thought exactly the same thing when i get brochures etc but on the other hand they do provide a great insight into what the charity is doing and where our money is going such as uwt.

what do you mean by we shouldn't make charities a khalifah?

aren't charities the best way of giving our zakat sadaqah and lillah as we can give it to different countries for different projects and have updates on how its being used..
