Only scholars are well placed to guide us on such things but truly thought provoking and the video does bring to the fore Muslims' relationships or lack of it with animals, their understanding (What kind of animals interacted with the Prophet PBUH- The Sahaba RA) and more importantly how to balance between their condemnation and acceptability in our normal day to day life.
Here in Africa the first reaction to seeing a dog is to stone it. The reasons are 2 fold:
    1. That the dog might be carrying disease
    2. That the dog represents a sign of oppression and colonial mastery where they were being used as a scare tactic when handling riotic masses.
I personally love dogs and their loyalty but obviously not as pets.
If you truly ask me, it is the lack of compassion or sheer selfishness that as humans we have/are left/leaving out opportunities for our salvation such as helping out blind people (physically challenged). Imagine the ajar one would be getting if one is confronted with PC people on street crossings etc. and you help out! Double edged sword I know, but hey opportunities come and go. Just recently I read somewhere that there are Islamic old peoples homes shooting up in the west! How sad!
In the rouse of the new awakening and global "Islam-asization" will the world be more chaotic or will there more love and tolerance?

An old man was being carried away by his son to sleep in the garden shed coz he was coughing and making so much noise that the children could not sleep. Half way to the shed the old man started laughing. His son asked his dad why he was laughing. " Coz I also did the same to my dad"!

This story has been told numerous times and in different societies.

The version I know goes like this:

a son would transport his old and blind father on the back. They stopped by a tree one day and the son told his dad " dad wait here I'll be right back" to which the father replied " No you can go, I know you won't come back because I did the same to my blind father and under this very tree"

    Today 1925 Channel4; 2025 Channel4+1.

    Muslim perspective today.

Is it a sin to bare our flesh?
Modern society and mainstream religion places huge emphasis on body image. The way we present ourselves in public can reveal our attitudes to sex and to social and religious rules of human attraction. Some modern women believe that choosing to expose their flesh is empowering, while some mainstream religious voices promote covering up as the best way to protect ourselves and demonstrate self-respect. Some people of faith believe the public exposure of nakedness is deeply damaging and immoral. This week 4thought.tv asks “Is it a sin to bare our flesh?”

On that video the lady seems to have had her eyebrows threaded (see the many comments on the video). Is that not haraam? She's got perfect Iranian style Hijaab (I think without any makeup). I know she's Shi'a because I've seen her on the Shi'a station - perhaps threading the eyebrows is permitted for them?
