i had a driving lesson today but my instructor was smoking, he had the window open an i turned my head to breath but i dunnoi still smelled it a bit. is my fast broken?

There are eight situations(things) which decides that one's roza is kept or not.These are;
1) NISYAAN:One doesn't remember his fast & eat and drink something.Roza will be still valid.
2)GHALABA:Things happen unwillingly and it's very difficult to avoid from it e.g dust,smoke,night emissions etc.Roza is still valid.

2nd hand smoking like the smoke if incense sticks, does break ones fast, however its intake is subjected to TWO conditions. In case of unintentional intake of such smoke, may it be from incense, diesel, or smoking the fast will be valid. and not only valid but without Karahiat ( no Makrooh ) . However if one stands in a smoking are. or goes close to someone smoking with the intention that one will inhale smoke, then his fast is broken and it will not be an accidental nullification rather willfull one. Full Kafara will be required.

the other day my husband was cooking and the onions where quite strong so i lit an insense stick, and it was quite powerful, i was fasting and didnt know at the time that u shudnt really have insense sticks on cuz they can break ur fast, is my fast valid?

ive gotta do kuffara any way for different incident so its not gonna make any difference i suppose.

No, Your fast isn't broken but you should perform wuzu instantly. However, you should respectfully ask your instructor to stop smoking while teaching you if you feel bothered or irritated by the smell.
