Default Sunnah number of meals per day?

Asalaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh,

Alhamdulillah, I've been recently trying to control and balance my diet (not that I eat to much in the first place!). I've reduced my consumption of sugar and fried foods. So I was wondering if there are any established number of meals the Prophet (saw) would eat a day. I've always assumed that three meals a day is something which began from 'The West'. Personally speaking, I find it difficult to eat three meals a day, however my mother worries that I don't eat enough. I've realised that eating three meals makes me feel heavy and sluggish, which when I am empty I feel very light and have a spring in my step.

So yes, anything from the Sunnah with regards to meal times would be greatly appreciated.

    JazakumAllahu Khairan

I've heard from an alim that eating breakfast was not proven by prophet sallallahualaihiwasallam. Though then another of them recommended me not to skip it for it would weaken the brain. People of that era were stronger and they had rich food though less but it was rich and pure. Yes the timings for a healthy schedule is must. early morning, before zohr, before isha
