Default Family planning in Islam ??

    Salam

Is family planning allowed in Islam ? Say a newly wed couple wish to wait before trying for a child is this jai'z or should they leave it to Allah ?

I know many who chose to wait, but not sure on its permissibility despite having the means and resources and right mind set to raise a child.

    Thoughts ?

    Asslam-o-Aelikum,

First of all, that maintaining the human race - is undoubtedly one of the main purposes of marriage. Thus, Islam encourages a large number of children and blesses both male and female offspring.

Islam rejects the idea that children are a burden. Disastrous result of this is preference pets (dogs or cats) to children. Muslims should never follow such ideas. They can protect themselves from their negative influences, strictly following the teachings of the Quran on marriage and children. In this context, Islam does not approve of family planning, if it is just for fun, and unwillingness to take responsibility for the children.

However, Islam considers that the quality is more important than quantity, and family planning is acceptable, if a couple has one of the following reasons:
    1. If both of spouses are student. And there degrees will be worse, when they take responsibility for upbringing.
    2. If they are too young.
    3. If one of them or both are weak or ill and they are going to have a baby when their condition is improved.
    4. If they look after old parents, and it is exhaust them physically and moral.
    5. If they use family planning only during short period of time, for better preparing for be parents.
    6. If they use family planning for make gap between pregnancies to give enough care for their children.
    7. If wife can not have a child for medical reasons.

The best example for the believers is the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who married and had children. These Prophets and Messengers are the people whom Muslims should look to emulate. Allah says:
