Darul-Ulooms/Universities in Saudi

I'm thinking of doing an Aalim course in Makkah or Madinah. Does anyone have any recomendations, info, details etc. that may help me?

I don't know Arabic either; so i will need to attend a Darul-Uloom/University whcih teaches Arabic from English.

I know there is Ummul Qura in Makkah and Madinah University in Madinah, but they are hardcore Salafi, so learning Arabic there might be fine, but not doing Aalim studies.

I've heard of Madrassah Al-Sawlatiyyah which is in Makkah and is Alhamdulillah a Hanafi Darul-Uloom; but does anyone know if they facilitate for non-Arabs? Or do they just teach the Aalim studies for Arabs?

Also, any advice on visas, living expenses and conditions etc. Please share.

Where are you living at the present (which country). This will help us in helping you. Without good Arabic it is hard to go to any university. Try getting an Arabic Teacher first. However give me details of your location, then we can see what we can do.

I live in London (England).

I'm hoping that the Madrassah Al-Sawlatiyyah in Makkah (the Hanafi Madrassah) facilitates for students who don't speak Arabic. That would be ideal because i'll be able to learn Arabic and do the Aalim course at that Madrassah.

If the Madrassah doesn't facilitate for non-Arabic students, i'll have to learn Arabic first somewhere else in Makkah or Madinah. Right now i'm only aware of Ummul Qura in Makkah and the University in Madinah that teach Arabic for English speakers, but its hard to get in to these Universities and secondly they're hardcore 'Salafi'.

I have already started learning Arabic here, Alhamdulillah.

Continue learning Arabic. Those who are interested in studying in Medina or Makkah usually discount other places & countries. Try for some place else like Syria (Damascus), or even try coming to Pakistan.

There are various traditional Sunni institutes set up for teaching Arabic to people such as yourself but not in Saudi that i know of.....

JazakAllah for the link to bakkah.net. The website you gave is for Ummul-Qura University, in Makkah.

As a last resort, i'll have to go to one of the 'Salafi' Universities if i can get in just for the Arabic.

Anyone know since when and why has Saudi become so 'Salafi'?? I've only realised after doing research into the Universities how anti-Madhab they are.

Since the reign of the Saudi Monarchy who supports the wahabis wholeheartedly from the beginning. They gradually went from hanbali to la-madhabi with the advent of the salafi movement of course with the help of their grand shaykhs, Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen and many other smaller scholars who only believe in sh. ibn taymiah's version of Islam and everyone else is misguided and deviant according to them.

By the way, you can study classical arabic right there in your hometown of London or some other country like Yemen or Syria. . In my opinion that would be much better than studying arabic all the way in Saudi Islamic universities. "Never give one whose heart is deviant access to your two ears, for surely you never know what may find fixity in you."
