    Default Arabic madrasas overseas

I am planing to study arabic next year(1 year intensive), however, I am not sure on which country would be best for me to study in(Morocco or Yemen?). Is there anyone who has information about arabic schools in these countries? Perhaps there are people who have already travelled overaseas to study, and could recommend some places for a convert from the west?

Syria is really nice. I am from there. You would have alot of fun probably in Halab. Halab from what I saw (this is not a scientific assessment) has more Sufis than Damascus. Halab is really nice - there is alot of Maqams and there is the Nabi Zakkariyah (`Alayhis Salam) whom you can visit regularly insha Allah. There is good food and alot of fun there. The people are very very kind and there is alot to do. There is so much Hadra all the time too.

How do you compare Yemen with Syria??? What is your opinion. Can you give some details about the following in Syria

    1. Various Types of Setups that teach Islamic Knowledge (Muqams, Universities, Madrassas etc.) and a little description about them

    2. The various syallbi of Islamic Teaching like in Pakistan there is Dars e Nizami and the Alim Courses. What is the format in Syria.

    3. The duration of various courses

    4. Pre Requisites of getting into these courses, study programs

    5. Other Requirements like food, boarding, lodging etc.

    6. General life...

Will be grateful for your answer

There are several points to considerate. If you also planned on studying fiqh then I would think that Morocco is a better choice. It's a nice country I have been there two times and I know a few ulema (mostly tabligis) down there. It would also not be very hard to contact madrassa's because I know several people here in Holland who have studied there. You do have to know that the arabic people normally speak is very far from good Arabic and the accent is fatal for ones Qur'aanrecitation. Also the political situation is not very optimal (though its getting better now a lot of madrassa's were closed after the bombings in Casablanca. Also if you have a beard even a little one you are considerated as an extremist for this reason you will not see many people with beards not even imams).

If you decided to go to Jemen you should check: http://www.daruliftaa.com/Docs/Bless...s_of_Yemon.htm
Which describes two madrassas in Jemen I would think darul mustafa is the best if you would only go for one year. Here's more information: www.daralmustafa.org.
