Default Arabic vocabulary list for students of knowledge?

    As salaamu alaykum.

Does anyone know of any vocab lists which list the words that a person who would like to learn the Arabic language in order to study classical texts (such as Tafsirs, Hadith, works of fiqh, etc.) would most benefit from learning?

I've seen some people who have gone through Alim courses and have a pretty solid grasp of Sarf and Nahw, but lack the vocabulary to read voluminous works in Arabic. Since I cannot currently study Sarf and Nahw formally, I would like to at least learn as much vocab as possible so that once I begin or finish studying Sarf and Nahw, lack of vocabulary will not be a problem that I encounter when tackling classical texts.

If no such lists exist, would it be possible for some of my more knowledgeable brothers and sisters to begin one right here on this thread to which people could add their own suggestions?

    I hope so.

    Jazakallahu Khair.

    Wa'salaam.

    Salam Alaykum,

Not sure if this is what you are looking but Mashallah it is an excellent resource for those attempting to understand the Quran, enhance their devotion in salah etc
It also goes through a little bit of grammar as well at the beginning of the book.

The Easy Dictionary of the Qur'an

I hope this is along the lines of what you were looking for.

    Wasalam

Yes bro thank you. The link that you have posted is an excellent start. Now if we could add some more essential vocabulary that one would need to read through the hadith, works of fiqh, and other classical texts, I (and many others) would be set, SO PLEASE CONTRIBUTE GUYS!

WHy would that be impossible? All you have to do is list the words that one is most likely to encounter most often when reading hte Quran, Sunnah, and other classical texts. For example, the term "Halaal" (i.e. lawful) is one that is one much more likely to encounter in a classical Arabic Islamic text than in a newspaper. I am looking for lists of those types of words to be developed on this thread.

    I would appreciate anyone's contributions.

    Assalaamu'alaikum,

I don't know about vocab lists for high-end level Islamic studies, however there are several initiatives for giving essential vocab to understand the Qur'an, which focus on more 'religious' words or words that you come across often in the Qur'an

    http://www.80percentwords.com/
The messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "The servant speaks words, the consequences of which he does not realize, and for which he is sent down into the depths of the Fire further than the distance between the east and the west."

Quite sad really. So many glossaries and vocab lists for modern subjects yet none for hadith, fiqh etc

The Understanding Quran organization of Hyderabad has a website with PDF books on the same topic. They have info like if you know this page then you know 25 percent of the words in Qur'an etc.
